Amazon.com What's a panda to do when his dreams of kung-fu awesomeness awake to the cold reality of noodle-making? Clumsy, overweight Po (Jack Black) dreams of becoming a kung fu master like China's revered "furious five," but instead seems destined to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in the restaurant business. When great leader Oogway has a vision that the imprisoned kung fu warrior Tai Lung (Ian McShane) will soon escape, he declares it time to choose China's dragon warrior--one kung fu master deemed worthy of possessing the dragon's scroll and its secret to limitless power. Po and all the townspeople rush to the Jade Palace atop the highest mountain to witness the contest between Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogan), Crane (David Cross) and Viper (Lucy Liu), but Po is locked outside the palace. After a miracle of sorts, Po lands inside the palace gates, where he is chosen as the dragon warrior and placed under the tutelage of the decidedly non-plussed master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). An unconventional student to say the least, hilarity reigns as Shifu tries desperately to make Po into some semblance of a kung fu warrior. Can Po possibly fulfill his destiny as dragon warrior, or was Oogway's final decision a critical mistake? A film rich with hilarious moments, superior animation, and an important message about believing in oneself and the power that comes from within, iKung Fu Panda/i is great entertainment that will have the whole family laughing and begging for more. Simply Gorgeous January 6, 2009 Brian Simpson (Kansas City) Aside from the distraction of the film being filled with extremely recognizable vocal talents from several generations of Hollywood, it's a wonderful film that is appropriate for the entire family. Amazing kung-fu fight sequences are combined with some traditional spiritually enlightening self-discovery (ala The Silent Flute/Circle of Iron). br / br /As far as the blu-ray side, it's one of the top 20 Blu Rays in production at this time in relation to it's clarity of image and boldness of color. If you really want to put your PS3/BD Player to the test, as well as the raw color power of your HD television, this is the BD for you. (well, either this or Speed Racer). Well worth the sale price of 14-16 dollars if you can manage to catch it during a sale.
No Charge for Awesomeness January 4, 2009 Nathan Beauchamp (Oak Park, IL USA) Kung Fu Panda is right up there with THE INCREDIBLES and WALL-E for my favorite animated film ever. Not just a hilarious send up of martial arts flicks, nor another opportunity for Jack Black to assert his comic genius, Kung Fu Panda is an awesome piece of story telling that will appeal to adults just as much as its target audience. br / br /The animation is beautiful. I've always preferred 3D animation to hand drawn, and this movie is a good example of why. There is no clipping or jaggedness to the animation; each scene is smooth and looks incredible. br / br /The story is classic martial arts fare, with a few twists. Po the Panda, against all odds, is chosen to be the fabled Dragon Warrior, despite the fact that he knows nothing about martial arts except what he has read in pulp serials. He is out of shape and untrained, and his only real asset is his unshakable hopefulness and charm. Without getting into too much of a plot summary, the story is good-enough. The real reason to watch this one isn't the plot anyway. The visuals, the humor, and the voice acting are all perfect, and make even an average plot shine. br / br /As Po the panda says, there is "no charge for awesomness," except maybe the cost of the DVD or Blue Ray. br / br /4.5/5 stars. An instant classic animated film. Buy yourself a copy and another one for someone you love.
Packs a Hi-Tech Punch December 31, 2008 Pyanfar Chanur (Frankfort, KY USA) (disclaimer: if you are considering the Blu-Ray disc, you should know that it does not contain the "Secrets of the Furious Five" extra feature that is available with some DVD versions of this movie) br /I loved this film in the theater, and I decided to buy the Blu-ray version simply for its color and detail. At 1080p, the picture is ornate, vivid, and eye-popping. br /I've also been very pleased with the sound quality of this disc. I'm no golden-ear, but I can tell you that my Onkyo TX-SR806 receiver offered me a sizeable variety of options as far as the audio: I believe some of the lossless audio options my receiver picked up on are unique to the Blu-Ray version. The end result of all this technology is that the movie both looks and sounds amazing--more amazing, in my opinion, than it was in our local theater. br /Kung-Fu Panda is a hilarious, enjoyable family film that does an excellent job of capturing the excitement of martial arts while downplaying the violence of what is ultimately a battle story. The beauty of this film is that while it borrows from many movie cliches, it also embeds a rather good message about not trying to be who you think people expect you to be--but simply making the best of who you are. There's an undercurrent of believing in yourself that warms the heart as much as the gentle humor that plays throughout. Voiced by Jack Black (as Po the Panda), Dustin Hoffman (as his trainer Master Sifu) and a celebrity supporting cast, the chemistry comes together and makes Kung-Fu Panda a fun film that stands up to repeat viewings. Highly recommended. br /
Awesomely fun Movie December 24, 2008 Samuel H. Dodson IV (Washington, DC) Kunga fu panda is fun for both young and old viewers alike. It's a chamring movie with a lot of character.
definitely recommend December 22, 2008 Albert Co (California, USA) Picture is just as good as Ratatouille or even better. Watching on Sony ps3 coupled with onkyo 606 receiver and samsung 40Ln550. Kung Fu Panda produces gorgeous colors compared to other titles. And I have 36 to titles. Tends to give me peaceful sleep when watching late night. Definitely recommend
