Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars Well, it's finally a movie.   April 7, 2010
Renfield (Edmonton, Canada)
Back when FF7AC got released in 2005 online, I downloaded it and watched it. Though left totally loving it, I thought, "Wouldn't it be good if there was more of a story, though?" I mean, don't get me wrong. I loved it a lot. But it just felt like an action and CG extravaganza more than anything. Like, halfway through, you aren't really focusing on how good the movie is anymore- you're just focusing on how good the CG is and how totally sick the action scenes are.

In 2007, I was pleased that an extended and unrated Director's Cut was coming to Blu-Ray. In 2009, when I saw the artwork, I got all happy and excited- it looked awesome and seeing some photos of the extended scenes made me all pumped up. Then, of course, I bought Advent Children: Complete the very day it got released. I did get a tad nervous when put the disc in- it could totally screw up the whole movie, and could be a very George Lucas move, you know how he messes around with his films then tries to call it "the best version of my movie ever". That said- I pushed "Play" once the menu came up.

COMPLETE VERSION: 5/5
Success!!!! Not only was I totally blown away by that I had just watched; I felt like I had seen a completely different movie. Mr. Nomura inserted a good 26 minutes of footage, plus a great deal of enhancements to already-existing scenes and also tweaked up the music.

ADDED SCENES:
Let me first mention that Denzel, that whiny and annoying kid in the first movie, is now actually a kid who is likeable. There's a bit of a backstory here, where we find out how Cloud found him. We also see him watching the report of the disaster in Midgar, and some more of his doubt towards Cloud. Also, I loved when he grew some balls during the TWFF scene and knocked the hydrant over to let the water spray on those ground monsters! That was awesome. As for other scenes, there's a conversation between Marlene and Cloud before Kadaj summons Bahamut. It actually works quite well and doesn't interrupt the flow. Without giving much more away, I'll also say that the TWFF scene is extended and has tons more action. And of course, the One Winged Angel battle is slightly altered, and will surprise you with it's awesomeness!! Also, don't gorget to Fast Forward past the end credits.

RE-EDITED/EXTENDED SCENES:
Most of the movie's scenes are different- including some tweaked up CG (like the Moon after the "Black Water" scene), and some bruises and blood on Cloud during the OWA scene.

DIFFERENT MUSIC: The soundtrack is relatively the same, but there are some differences. Most glaring being "Battle in the Forgotten City"- there's an almost completely different arrangement. Plus midway, the song stops, and a choir lets out a haunting, Georgian-style chant which leads into an epic, Matrix-esque battle scene arrangement before going back to the original song. The arrangements on most songs are different, including "One Winged Angel"- it has an added orchestral part before the "Mi fili veni" part. "Those Who Fight Further" is much longer. Also, some new music added to the new scenes and some completely different music in some parts.

VIDEO QUALITY: 4.5/5
LEt's face it. You knew it was coming. The quality is gorgeous- there is a great amount of detail and the new scenes look gorgeous. Only two problems here- there is a small amount of edge enhancement, most notably Cloud's sword at the 1:36:50 mark. Also, some scenes make it clear that the film is starting to show its age- some light noise in certain scenes, but barely noticeable. Otherwise it is completely demo worthy.

AUDIO QUALITY: 5/5
Man, the sounds of swords clanging together and unsilenced gun shots firing have never sounded so good to the ear. the HD track is beyond phenomenal. Some scenes are almost like there's a battle going on in your living room. I'll admit I ducked in a few scenes, most notably Bahamut's roaring, and the J-E-N-O-V-A scene. Quite possibly one of the best HD audio masters without a single flaw.

EXTRAS: 2/5
My only complaint. On The Way To The Smile, Reminiscence we've seen already, plus the trailers were stuff we already saw, though the FFXIII trailer looked tempting at first sight.

In short, this is the only version of the movie you should own, and if you have BR and refuse to buy this release because you already own the original- I don't care what you say, BUY THIS BLU-RAY RELEASE!
